At first glance, this manor house, lost in the London countryside, seems perfectly normal.
But this manor is inhabited by some rather strange people: Ciel Phantomhive (Funtomhive), a 12-year-old master and unparalleled industrialist at the head of England's most feared family; a demonic butler, Sebastian Michaelis, skilled in both housework and martial arts; a butler, Tanaka, who knows nothing but how to drink sake and say "oh oh oh"; a cook with questionable dishes, Bard, who only knows how to cook meat with a flamethrower; a maid, May Lin, so clumsy she could kill you unintentionally; and a gardener, Finnian, with superhuman strength, who thinks he's in Demolition Land and therefore only knows how to maintain a garden by destroying it.
And when all these people have to deal with such disreputable characters as Jack the Ripper, it's bound to cause a stir...
Beneath the Gothic comedy of an unflappable demon butler solving Victorian crimes with a bored twelve-year-old employer, Black Butler is a story about what it costs to give everything over to revenge — and what happens when the bill eventually comes due.
