PUBG: Battlegrounds is the game that created the battle royale genre as we know it today, developed by Krafton and originally released in 2017. One hundred players parachute onto an island, scavenge for weapons and equipment, and fight to be the last person or team standing as a deadly blue zone steadily shrinks the playable area. PUBG's tactical, realistic approach — with ballistics simulation, weapon attachments, and vehicles — set it apart from more arcade-style battle royale competitors and earned it a massive, dedicated global player base. Maps like Erangel, Miramar, and Sanhok each offer completely different gameplay experiences. The game went free-to-play in 2022 and received regular updates that keep the competitive experience fresh. Still one of the most skill-rewarding battle royale games available.
