Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia is Kinetic Games' indie co-op horror phenomenon — a ghost investigation game that became a viral sensation in 2020 and has maintained a passionate player community ever since. One to four players take the role of paranormal investigators entering haunted locations — houses, asylums, prisons, and schools — armed with ghost-hunting equipment including EMF readers, spirit boxes, UV flashlights, and video cameras. Your goal is to identify the specific type of ghost haunting the location from 24 possible entities by gathering evidence, then escaping before the ghost kills you. The game's genius is its use of voice recognition: the ghost actually listens to what you say, responding to its name and reacting to certain phrases — which means whispering "where are you?" in a dark room might get an answer that sends you running in genuine terror. Few games create fear this organically or memorably. Regular major updates add new ghosts, maps, and equipment.
