Dredge is a fishing adventure game wrapped in creeping cosmic horror — one of the most atmospheric and surprising indie games of 2023. Arriving as a new fisherman in the isolated Marrow archipelago, you spend your days fishing, dredging up mysteries from the ocean floor, and completing requests for the archipelago's eccentric inhabitants. But at night, the ocean changes: fog rolls in, impossible creatures appear in the dark water, and your skipper's sanity begins to fray. The mundane act of fishing becomes genuinely tense as the Lovecraftian horror seeps through every gentle mechanic. Black Salt Games built a world of extraordinary atmospheric depth from a small budget, weaving environmental storytelling and a narrative of guilt, obsession, and ancient horror through conversations and discoveries rather than cutscenes. Multiple expansions have enriched the already excellent experience. Dredge proves that atmosphere and restraint are the most powerful tools in horror.
