Overlord

Overlord is a uniquely compelling isekai anime with a premise that flips the genre on its head: instead of a hero arriving in a fantasy world to save it, Ainz Ooal Gown is a supremely powerful undead sorcerer — the last player left in a shutting-down MMORPG — who finds himself truly transported into a world where the game's NPCs have become real. He is unambiguously the most powerful being in this world, and the series derives its tension not from whether Ainz will win, but from how he navigates his overwhelming power while hiding his uncertainty behind a calculating, godlike mask. Madhouse's animation gives Ainz and his Floor Guardians a genuinely imposing presence. The supporting cast of Nazarick's guardians — each fanatically devoted to Ainz — provides both comedy and chilling villainy. A dark, intelligent power fantasy done with real craft.
